Nassau, NY- (July 12, 2014) Matt Pappa showed how tough the 16 year old racer can be when he rebounded from a lap three flat tire to record a strong fourth place finish under a full moon at Lebanon Valley Speedway.
Pappa lined up in 16th for the 20 lap main event. He started to work his way to the front when another racer tried to make it three wide on lap three. “All I could think was this is not going to work”, stated Pappa. “We got a flat after he slammed into my left front causing a gash in my tire. I made it to the pits but had to re-start last with over 20 cars in front of me.”
In the next 17 laps Matt put on a driving clinic racing from last to fourth when the checkered flag flew. Pappa turned what could have been a disastrous point’s night into a solid one. “My car was incredible when I came back out,” added Pappa. “I was passing cars high and low and I think we had the car to beat. My guys came through getting my flat changed and it was time for me to do my job.”Matt’s next race is this Saturday evening July 19th back at the Valley.
At the drop of the green Pappa made a quick move from his seventh starting spot to third but was passed on the inside, dropping him back to fourth. He ran in that spot for the remainder of the race earning a well-deserved top 5 finish.
“It was a one lane track tonight,” said Pappa. “I got a great start but there was just no way to pass. I kind of just had to take what there was.”
This was Matt’s first trip back to Albany Saratoga where he won four races in his rookie season. “It was great to be back racing at Albany Saratoga,” added Pappa. “I just really feel comfortable racing here.”Pappa’s next race is at Lebanon Valley this Saturday night July 12th where he sits third in Sportsman points.
